I’ve spent the last week having fun in Malta with Hannah, avoiding the winter snow back in the UK. We decided that a bike tour of Gozo, Malta’s second biggest island, was the best way to see things. In a rare occurrence, we would alsoRead more
My name is Mathew Mitchell, 27 from Warwickshire, UK. Over the last few years I’ve got more and more into cycling, from the first innocent Sportive events to Audaxes, Go-Races, British Cycling racing and now Time Trials.
I did my first Sportive in 2010, coming in the bottom 10% or so of a 100-mile event around Stratford upon Avon, the next event a mere 6 weeks later saw me end up in the bottom 30%, improvement!
2011 and 2012 were a sort of hiatus, still riding but not really with a purpose other than a couple of goes at the Dunwich Dynamo.
2013 was the first year of purposefully structured cycling. It started with signing up to the Paris-Roubaix Challenge and the training rides to prepare. Once this was completed I realised I found cycling on my own all the time a little bit boring and joined a local club (Stratford CC). The improvement of proper riding with decent riders has been obvious with a 5th in a Sportive in July, followed by the first ‘win’ in September.
2014 saw a few attempts at things, a bit of racing and a bit of audaxing – first few BC points and the first 200km ride completed.
2015 is all about audaxing, long rides, fixies, cobbles, tandems and many new things!
And so on and so on!
