First win of the season for Lorena Wiebes in Omloop van het Hageland

‘’It was an exciting race. It always feels good to win, but even more so after sprinting against these riders. I felt better than last year but it was still a tough race. Good thing the team worked hard and I knew which wheel to go for.’’ – Lorena Wiebes

Starting off as one of the favourites, Lorena succeeded in taking victory today after winning the sprint against last year’s winner Marta Bastianelli. Along with a first place for Lorena, the team won the youth classification and Romy Kasper took the green jersey for the rushes-classification.

Lorena was still well covered during the race with Amber van der Hulst, Esther van Veen and Romy Kaspers by her side within the peloton, after Sylvie Swinkels and Femke Markus had to leave the race early on and Marit Raaijmakers had to give up after a crash.

Romy Kasper was part of the first serious breakaway within a group of nine riders. A few kilometres after the peloton closed the gap, a group of three riders caused a second breakaway. The team put in great effort to get back to the leaders in the final kilometres before the finish line, where Lorena took a strong position at the front of the bunch and won the sprint against Bastianelli.

Results:
1 Lorena Wiebes
22 Romy Kasper
59 Amber van der Hulst
82 Esther van Veen
