Kirsten Wild sprints in to the Ceratizit Leaders Jersey

Kirsten Wild sprinted to victory to win the first stage of Tour de Bretagne Feminin Ceratizit, taking the race lead at the same time as well as the intermediate sprints jersey. The 122km stage was raced from Val d’Anast to Goven including 3 QOM climbs and rolling terrain.

WNT-ROTOR’s team for 5 days of racing is; Kirsten Wild, Claudia Koster, Lara Vieceli, Clara Koppenberg, Anna Badegruber and French native, Laura Asencio. The tough opening stage finished with a drag to the finish line. The opening stage would always be a cagey affair with teams looking at each other and as a result no solid breakaways formed, the team rode to make sure we were fighting for the General Classification in future days and with that Kirsten was sure it would come down to a sprint.

Coming into the final dash for the line, the tactically astute Kirsten was first into the last corner before opening up the sprint and holding on the hard drag to the line. The perfect way to come back after a mini break post Classics season. Speaking to Kirsten post-race she had this to say;

“It was a hard finish, I haven’t checked my Wahoo yet, but my heart rate was definitely high! It was certainly a shock for the body. It’s nice to pull on the Ceratizit overall jersey but mostly to get a win. It would be nice to hold on to it but if not, it would be nice to pass on to one of my teammates.”

Laughing, Kirsten adds “I saw a lot of teammates today during the race, which was cool because everyone had Ceratizit on their race numbers, so it was a super nice feeling, but seriously it was really nice to take a victory especially with employees from Ceratizit to witness too!”

The win today adds to our growing number of wins, making it 11 for the season. Hopefully plenty of more victories in the future, maybe even in the remaining days of Tour De Bretagne. Keep up to date on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for videos, pictures and more.
